Here you can muse over 2500-year-old archaeological collections and immerse yourself in history. With various interactive displays and star exhibits like the Colchester Mercury Statuette, you can try your hand at steering a chariot, build a Norman archway or marvel over a large ‘Son et lumiere’ projection. When you stay with us, you will be half an hour drive from Colchester’s historic castle, so it’s a brilliantly convenient day trip.
High Woods Country Park
High Woods Country Park offers one of the most serene walks in Essex. This stunning county park is full of waymarked routes that will see you wander through bluebell woods, catch glimpses of the lake and spy wonderful wildflower meadows.
It also offers breath-taking views of Colchester. A fantastic location for a romantic walk, it also makes for a great day out with family as they have various adventure play areas for the kids to have fun.

Offering stunning exhibitions sourced from both local and internationally renowned artists, they also run various events through the year and provide learning workshops to help develop your artistic capabilities.
There are also live opera and ballet screenings occasionally, which you won’t want to miss.
